On Monday 22 February 2016, 4Tel successfully commissioned the real-time data feed of NSW TrainLink trains and coaches to Transport for NSW approved applications.
4Tel is able to generate the real-time information through its application 4Trak™ which has been tracking trains since 2008. The 4Trak™ system collects real-time position information (track and GPS data) of trains and coaches then compares it to planned timetabled information. 4Trak™ then calculates estimated arrival times for passenger information systems and external applications. This accurate real time data is also used to provide on-time service performance information.
The Transport for NSW real-time feed, which was first released to metro train applications Moovit and Transpit App, has now been released to regional NSW passenger train and coach application suppliers. These third-party Apps include TripView, NextThere, Arrivo Sydney, Triptastic, Metarove, abil.io, Moovit and Transit App .
The Hon. Andrew Constance MP who announced the real-time data project, highlighted that, “For the first time regional customers will have access to the same information about their services as our metropolitan customers, and as Future Transport progresses, there will be more improvements on the horizon for regional customers.”
4Tel is delighted to have been able to deliver this project for Transport NSW which gives NSW travelers a world-class standard of passenger transport information in regional areas.
