4Tel’s CEO Tony Crosby attended The Urban Rail 2023 conference held in Melbourne on 18-19 July. The leading industry event focused on light, suburban and metro rail and considered the future of smart and sustainable rail operations.

“It was very interesting to hear presentations on upcoming major rail projects, such as Auckland Light Rail, Melbourne Suburban Loop, and the work being done by Yarra Trams to improve the customer experience. Also, to hear about the support from the National Transport Commission to deliver on the federal and state governments’ industry harmonisation and interoperability agenda,” said Tony.

Operators, manufacturers, contractors and government stakeholders across the passenger rail sector came together to discuss new technologies and learn from industry-leading case studies from Australia and around the world.

Key topics included embracing digital innovation and emerging technologies; sustainability considerations; resilience in the face of climate change; urban development and engaging local communities.

Speaker highlights included Transport for London’s Thomas Ableman who explored the balance between sustainability and innovation, as well as Gold Coast Light Rail CEO Phil Mumford who discussed keeping pace with a growing city.

The conference was a great opportunity for the team to catch up in person with 4Tel’s Victorian customers. We look forward to the next conference.
