4Tel continues to provide train control technical services to the NSW Country Regional Network

In support of UGLRL’s take-up of the CRN, 4Tel has been engaged to maintain the technology systems of the previous JHR Network Management Centre at Mayfield, Newcastle.

28 FEBRUARY 2022, NEWCASTLE, AUSTRALIA: UGL Regional Linx (UGLRL) assumed contracted responsibility for the NSW Regional Country Regional Network (CRN) from John Holland Rail (JHR) from midnight on 29th January 2022. 4Tel congratulates UGLRL on the successful take up of operations and maintenance of the NSW CRN, and appreciates the opportunity to provide continuing services.

In support of UGLRL’s take-up of the CRN, 4Tel has been engaged to maintain the technology systems of the previous JHR Network Management Centre at Mayfield, Newcastle. 4Tel’s continuing role includes the following technical services in support of UGLRL:

  • Support for the SIL-2 IEC-61508 accredited Train Management and Control System (TMACS) Boards, which provide the core functionality for managing track movement and electronic access authorities over the train order territory on the CRN
  • Support for one Train Control Board for Rail Vehicle Detection with Centralised Train Control using the Phoenix train control system
  • GPS tracking of trains, track vehicles and staff
  • Track work management using the CRN ETW system
  • Monitoring and selective control of wayside devices using Internet-of-Things software
  • A back-up Disaster Recovery Facility (DRF) in Newcastle
  • Technical staffing to manage the technical maintenance needs of the residual train control functions remaining at the NMC

Above-rail operators and track Protection Officers will see the same functions and services as delivered under the JHR contract.  Arrangements for the train control services to transfer to UGLRL’s facilities at Bathurst and Orange will occur in due course upon their advice.
