The 4Tel team participated in the recent Newcastle University Women in Engineering (NUWiE) Networking Night event in August, including three female team members – R&D Coordinator, Megan Dickinson, and student representatives and Software Technicians, Marisa McLean and Helena De Gruchy.

The event was attended by enthusiastic students and accomplished professionals from various engineering companies who were keen to connect and collaborate. It provided a platform for important industry conversations and aspirations.

4Tel’s commitment to developing female talent was evident through the team’s willingness to provide genuine support and guidance. Megan, Marisa and Helena inspired students by sharing their own experience of starting a career in tech. They highlighted the inclusivity of 4Tel’s culture and promoted employer initiatives that can help to bolster female representation in the industry.

The team, which included 4Tel’s CEO Tony Crosby, also helped students with practical ideas to secure a position in tech. They discussed the application of engineering disciplines such as aerospace and mechatronics and how these fields relate to the workplace, like 4Tel’s projects in the rail industry.

Event speakers included WSP’s Breanna Clayton and BlueZone Group’s Elizabeth Karpiel.
Breanna shared her journey through internships and professional circles. She promoted networking as a potent tool for growth and learning. Elizabeth rose through the ranks of electrical engineering while raising two children. Her message was to embrace opportunities and not be afraid to explore uncharted territories.

Thanks to NUWiE Events Manager Imogen Reid, and NUWiE President Lyndsey Terry for orchestrating another successful evening.
