4AI Systems’ Acting CEO, Mark Wood was fortunate to co-present ‘Results from trialling emerging driver advisory technology to improve driver situation awareness’ alongside Pacific National’s Chief HSE & Sustainability Officer, Genevieve Nix, in a rail safety session held as part of AusRAIL 2024 on the Gold Coast in November.
The well-attended session showcased the trial conducted with Pacific National in November on the Queensland North Coast rail line to identify how 4AI Systems’ Horus system can use AI technology to help improve rail safety.

The goal of the trial was to demonstrate that advanced driver advisory technology can improve driver situational awareness during operations, and reduce the risk associated with SPAD and overspeed. This is achieved by providing:
- Speed and braking information for the next four kilometres
- Previous aspect
- Distance to next signal
- Warnings and alarms.
The project will continue for up to 12 months and will be independently assessed for its benefits. Additionally, Horus will be used to assist in validating the operational infrastructure along the Queensland North Coast line.
“A big thank you to the PN team for their support, in particular Genevieve for leading the presentation. We are very proud to share insights from this project and look forward to further demonstrating the potential safety benefits Horus can deliver to the Australian rail industry,” said Mark Wood.

4AI Systems and 4Tel also exhibited at the conference, sharing a co-branded stand. The striking design included a Horus SensorBar mounted to a life-size cut out of a Pacific National train, as well as an EN4CER brake enforcement onboard computer and driver machine interface. 4Tel’s extensive product solutions for rail, light rail, heavy haul, ferries and intermodal operations continued to attract interest from industry colleagues.
Congrats to the team on another successful AusRAIL. We’ll be seeing everyone again in Melbourne in 2025!
