Downer EDI has awarded innovative local Novocastrian company 4Tel Pty Ltd two contracts to support the delivery of the Newcastle Light Rail project. The contracts include the supply and installation of signals, controls and communications for the project.

These contracts leverage off 4Tel’s proven real-time control and information management solutions already used extensively in the Australian Rail Industry.

4Tel Managing Director, Derel Wust, has said that it is a great opportunity to be a part of the construction of a completely new transport network in our own backyard.

“As a developer of future technologies, Newcastle will greatly benefit from having a local world-class solution that will also be suitable for export growth opportunities,”

“It is great to think we have provided our team an opportunity to be a part in revitalising their own city,” Wust said.

“To think just over a year ago, Transport Minister Hon. Andrew Constance officiated the opening of our new state-of-the-art headquarters at Warabrook. Now we are about to expand again, providing more high-quality technical jobs to the Hunter region as we promised,” Wust said.

Downer EDI has been engaged as the managing contractor to build light rail in Newcastle on behalf of Transport for NSW.
