4Tel’s Artificial Intelligence Engineering Manager, Dr Aaron Wong hosted the annual RoboCup Junior competition for the Hunter Region in conjunction with NUbots at the University of Newcastle’s Great Hall in August.

This fantastic event brought together 75 students ranging from year three to year 11 from seven schools across rural and coastal NSW, along with their family, friends and teachers who cheered them on.

The competition provides a hands-on and encouraging environment for student teams to test their problem solving and programming skills using specially configured robots. The students and mentors thoroughly enjoyed the day.

“These workshops are really beneficial in helping the next generation consider a future in STEM. RoboCup provides a creative outlet for students interested in robotics and programming, as well as encouraging teamwork in a fun and social setting,” said Aaron.

Representatives from the 4Tel team volunteered as referees for the event, including Jason Disher, Johanne Montano and Robert Karathanassis from 4AI Systems, and Liam Craft from 4Tel’s Software Development team.

Well done to all the students who participated!
