4Tel has been formally acknowledged on the University of Newcastle (UON) Supporter Honour Board for ongoing philanthropic activities. 4AI Systems AI Development Manager, Dr Trent Houliston, represented the company at UON’s annual Supporter Thank You Reception held on 14 May in the Great Hall.
“We place a high value on our strong ties with UON and we were honoured to be recognised at their event. Investment in education is an important initiative for our company, to help secure top local talent for our team and to contribute to the industry as a whole,” said Dr Trent Houliston.
4Tel’s sponsorship and collaboration provides students with mentorship and work experience opportunities to strengthen employability at the end of their studies. Initiatives include:
- Sponsorship of the NUbots team from UON’s Robotics Research Group since 2016, including participation in the annual RoboCup International competition.
- Sponsorship of Women in Engineering (NUWiE) since 2023 to encourage women to enter STEM careers.
- Employment pathways – the 4AI Systems team currently comprises 85% UON graduates or students. In 2023, 4Tel was inducted into UON’s Work Integrated Learning Hall of Fame as part of their Employability Excellence Awards.
- Participation in UON events, such as the annual Newcastle Tech Futures exhibition and Emerging Technology Group events.
- Guest lectures by 4AI Systems’ Dr Aaron Wong (Psychology and Computational Neuroscience) and Dr Trent Houliston (Machine Intelligence).
- PhD sponsorship of 4AI Systems’ Dr Alex Biddulph.
The Supporter Honour Board is displayed in the Great Hall at the Callaghan Campus, at all major University events, and on their website.
